Clocks Page 20

'Friends' by Lavroff
This stunning clock set is attributed to Lavroff. It was made in France during the 1920s and the figures and detailing are made of bronze. The lovely bronze lady lays naked looking affectionately at her dog on top of the brown marble clock. To the front of the clock is the most stunning geometric silvered bronze clock face and 2 leaping ibex motifs - in true Lavroff style. The clock is complemented with 2 matching garnitures also portraying the silvered bronze leaping Ibex. The clock measures 21 inches long, 5 inches deep and the lady is 13 inches high. The condition is very good, and it works. Please feel free to email me for more pics. George Lavroff was born Georgiu Lavrov in Siberia in 1895. He was originally an artist and he died on August the 29th 1991 at the ripe old age of 96 years!

Lady & Deer Clock Set
A beautiful French spelter and ivorene clock set, unsigned but attributed to Menneville. It is composed of Belgian Black marble, Rosso Red marble and green onyx and has typical deco circle shapes combined with the rectangular clock enclosure. The lady is spelter and ivorene and is wearing a typical Menneville cloche hat and long dress and is feeding deer which is sitting on a piece of onyx. The clock face is crisp and clean with the inscription 'Valery, Limoges' and is working well. The clock is complimented by a pair of spelter urn shaped garnitures, also typical of Menneville, but these ones are smaller and a slightly unusual shape, but having bases which echo the main clock base having onyx and red and black intersections. Condition: Various and numerous nibbles to the marble edges and the lady is unfortunately missing a couple of fingers (please email me for close-up pics), otherwise condition is very good. Size: 26 inches long, 11 inches high, 6 inches deep. Garnitures: 4.5 by 4.5 by 9 inches tall.

Peacock Lady Clock-Set
Wonderful French spelter and rosso marble clock with matching pedestal garnitures. Measures approx. 19 x 16 inches high (48x41cm). Condition is very good.

Bronze Panthers Clock
A French onyx and bronze clock, signed on the panthers leg - Hugues, a new name to me. The base is a mixture of beautifully patterned brown onyx with sections of mainly pale green onyx, but with some lovely and interesting coloured striations (more pics available which show the detail). Stylish ribbed detail to the front side sections, an unusual patterned clock face which may be bronze and a bronze bezel, measures 23 inches long, total of 13 inches high and 6.5 inches deep. This clock has recently been renovated and is working well. There is a partial hairline crack around the small cat's tail, (pic available), and therefore being sold as-is, at a sensible price for a bronze clock. Onyx is in generally good condition with just a couple of nibbles as usual.

The Charioteer by Odyv
French ceramic clock signed under the base ODYV, it comes with a pair of matching garnitures. It measures 18 inches long by 4 deep by 11 high (46cm x 10 x 28). The clock is currently fitted with a quartz movement and therefore keeps good time with no need to wind it every few days. Condition is very good with the usual loss to some of the silvering, this is quite common due to age.

Peach Glass Mantle Clock
Peach glass base panel and clock face which slots into the peach glass base. Unfortunately some edge damage to the two bottom corners of the clock face. Has also had its movement replaced for a battery operated quartz movement and so keeps perfect time. Measures approx. 11.5 inches high (30cm) by 10 inches (26cm) wide and 4 inches (10cm) deep.

Cubist Art Deco Cats Clock
This is a very rare art deco silvered bronze clock. The green onyx clock face is silvered bronx as are the figures - with a cat to either end and onto 2 love birds sitting on a cushion. The quality of this clock is exceptional and I believe it is either by Lavroff or Bouraine - although it is unsigned. It measures 24.25 inches long by 4.25 inches deep by 11 inches high (62cm x 10.5cm x 28cm). We understand the clock has been recently serviced and it is ticking. It comes with its original pendulum and key. Condition is vey good with just a few tiny onyx nicks as one would expect after 90+ years.

Clock by ATO
French marble and onyx clock with spiders web face and art deco numerals. ATO is short for Leon Hatot, who was the first person to produce a battery operated clock in the late 1920s. It measures 14 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep by 9 inches high (36cm x 9cm x 23cm). Condition is good but there are couple of chips to the black marble at either end of the front corners. The clock is sold as is as the batteries to run ATO clocks are no longer available. However a good clock repairer should be able to adapt it to run on a modern battery.

The Reader by Demetre Chiparus
French spelter and sienna marble clock. A signed piece called the reader, a similar statue can be seen in the Chiparus book on page 67. Signed on the right hand end of the base - D H Chiparus. It measures 20.5 inches long by 5 inches deep by 10 inches high (52cm x 12.5 cm x 26cm). Condition is vintage but good.
