Folies Bergere Photograph
An original Art Deco photograph of a Folies Bergere theatrical performance during the 1930s. I have been lucky to have found a collection of old French art deco theatrical photos dating to the 1920s and 1930s. This is an official photo by Walery and it is certified with a stamp to the back - Photographie Walery and signature to the front - Walery, Paris. He was an official photographer for the Folies Bergere. He is also famous for his saucy risque nude pictures of the Folies ladies which he published under the pseudonym of Laryew as he could not risk his reputation as a family photographer. We have many Laryew nudes photogravures on site. This photograph is of a performance titled Pingn! Pagn! Pouf!! The photo is mounted on a brown card and the photo measures 8.75 inches by 6 inches (22cm x 15cm) the card measures 11 inches by 7 inches and has a title bar for the Folies Bergere to the top. The backdrop shows straw huts and musical notes and to the front is a lady in grass skirt dancing with a native and a number of native drummers. Condition is very good.
