A French phenolic art deco powder compact with a Cocteau design to the lid. The design shows a man in top hat and lady in silver leaf. Inside is a mirror to the lid and phenolic sifter panel.
Jean Cocteau was a multi talented artist of the 20th century. Jean Maurice Eugene Cocteau born 5th July 1889 in Vyelines France and died 11th Oct 1963 (aged 74) in Millet-la-foret, Essone France.
I have several of these Cocteau design powder compacts and powder bowls which are now highly collectible.
3.25 inches (8.5cm) in diameter.
In vintage unused condition with some minor foxing to the mirror.
