Art Deco style waiter – his name is Le Garcon.
He was made and is signed by Lindsey B (Lindsey Balkwill).
This model was produced in 3 sizes and this is the middle, waist high version.
Lindsey was working on a set of different designs when she created this piece in 1984.
The series was to be called – At your service. The original pictures were of a waitress which she did actually produced who was called Agatha (made in 2 sizes – a table top ceramic and a waist high fibreglass – one of which I have in my private collection). There was also going to be a chef, a bellhop, a cocktails waiter and an agatha lady with a hoover. Sadly these last 4 were never put into production. I am honoured in that Lindsey has given me a copy of the original drawings for them and have to say they would have been stunning had she gone ahead and and produced them.
This Garcon was made of fibreglass in 1984 and is signed to the back.
Hand finished in a funky patina, with a bald head, tinting to his eyelids, contrasting grey trousers with a black side band, a metallic blue jacket with black lapels, bow tie and shoes – He even has a moustache.
Lindsey tried out a few other paint techniques and this on is one of them and unique. They were usually produced in just 2 colours – one on his clothes and one on his skin tone which was either cream or silver.
Very good condition with some signs of ageing as one would expect after 40 years.
39 inches (100cm) high.
