Important work by the French artist – Maurice Brennier-Rousseau. Painted oil on board and framed in an original vintage wooden frame, circa 1945 and signed to the left hand bottom corner. Maurice was a good friend of Josephine Baker as shown in the additional photos I have of her with the artist and one of him taken outside Chateau Milandes. This painting may have been painted as a gift for Josephine. These items have come from the archives of the family of Brennier-Rousseau. Brennier-Rousseau painted many paintings for famous people and actors and actresses of the 1940s/50s. Among his clients were Edith Piaf, Josephine Baker, Michele Morgan, Jean Marais, Marlene Dietrich , Bourvil, Fernandel, Juliette Greco and many others. I am selling this picture with the additional photos as they form part of its history which can be seen below.
20 inches (51cm) wide, 12.5 inches (32cm) high.
