The Radiaver

Electric glass radiator/lamp with moulded glass base, designed by Rene Coulon (1908-1997) for French glass maker Saint Gobain and in production from 1937 up until 1952.

Saint Gobain etched to the base. This lamp was both a heater and a lamp with a tubular lamp in the base and electrical elements in the uprights designed to give light and heat.

Exhibited at the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne in Paris in 1937.

Originally set for 110 volts and 500w heater, this item has been de-activated from the original electronics and the base has replacement modern led strip lamps, although the radiator elements are still in place.

All the original bulbs, connectors and other pieces from the original lamp are available to the purchaser if required. The bakelite bases also have some of the original metal and paper labels still attached with operating instructions. Also included – the original sliding bakelite switch to switch between lamp and heater.

These items were described as iconic art deco era designs and make an unusual choice as table or sideboard lamps for the discerning collector.
